Despite the Chinese having lived in Australia since the gold-rush days, most Anglo-Celtic Australians have happily ignored Sino-related affairs and movies. The transient Clara Law may have made a couple of films here between living in Hong Kong and releasing her more recent Taiwanese adventure Like a Dream (2009), but, for most of the twentieth century, Australian cinema was a Sino-free zone. Occasionally, someone would release a Chinese film in Australia (Ronin Films was certainly a trailblazer in this regard), but largely the Hong Kong circuit was left to itself, catering mostly to the Cantonese community, a few martial-arts fan boys and other cinematic adventurers.
